JUNIOR MISS

When I was a little girl, we would, on occasion, spend time on Grandpa and Grandma's farm. Usually, going to the farm meant one thing....work. If we weren't bailing hay, we were walking beans and if we weren't walking beans, we were bailing hay. Occasionally we would get the opportunity to just hang out and be kids, and one of the few "toys" at the time was this old girls bike. Now it wasn't fancy by any means, and in grand "farm kid" fashion..even the boys didn't mind that it was a girls bike with daisies on the chain guard. That bike went everywhere on that farm, and I don't think those tires ever touched pavement, only gravel and dirt paths. Of course as time when on, that bike was replaced with toys of the ATV variety and I assume it found its place in a dark corner in the back of the shed.

I hadn't seen that bike in probably 25 years....until yesterday. I walked on to the farm only to take photos of the antique tractors my grandfather had collected and sweat over restoring for many years and was now selling on an open auction. Several other items had been pulled out of the shed to also be sold. As I rounded the corner of the shed, looked up the line of things for sale..........there she sat..that beautiful, orange, ape hanger handlebar, banana seat bike. I knew at that moment she would be coming home with me...........and she did. And the best part.....both my boys think she is totally "rad".
