
Is it me or was Christmas 2008 just like……yesterday? It still amazes me that the older we get the faster time passes. I can never quite understand why it seems as though the holidays sneak up on us; after all the retail stores have had holiday displays up since July and the radio stations started their continuous rotation of holiday music two weeks before Thanksgiving.
Personally, I enjoy the more traditional holiday celebrations, caroling, sleigh rides, & hot cocoa & sugar cookies by the fireplace on Christmas Eve. Recently our town reignited an old tradition of lighting the Community Christmas Tree. Some of our citizens even get all decked out for this affair (see photo). It is one great tradition that brings people, both young and old, together in the spirit of the holiday without all the hustle and bustle of the shopping mall.
So this year, I have decided to take it slow and bring into my home some of the traditions of my childhood so that my children can have fonder memories of the kinds of things we did together as a family instead of all the “stuff” they may have received.
